HISTORY
Tradition since 1980s and thousands of satisfied clients worldwide are proofs of uniqueness and effectivity of Rebox Therapy.
Story of Rebox
In 1980, the Rebox electrotherapeutic method was invented by Ing. Petr Slovak, Ph.D., a scientist and lecturer at the Czech Technical University in Prague, CZ. The name Rebox was derived from the words "Rehabilitation Box".
The method was patented in Czechoslovakia in 1982, other patents were submitted in the USA, Japan, UK and Spain before 1985. The rest of Europe was patent covered by 1990.
A first model Rebox I was produced only for clinical trials which started in 1982.
In 1985, a Rebox license was sold to the Pebleheats Ltd. company in the UK. This company changed its name to Rebox UK and started producing a Rebox II model. However, the license was cancelled in 1990 due to unpaid royalty fees by the REBOX UK.
After the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia, Petr Slovak founded the Rebox Prague Company in 1990. The Company started producing a Rebox-Physio model. For almost two decades, this successful model has undergone several electronics upgrades, but the principle of Rebox Therapy has remained unchanged until today.
In 2009 the Company transformed to REBOX THERAPY Ltd. and Petr Slovak´s son Matej Slovak became a co-owner of the company. In 2010, a digital model Rebox-Physio Classic was introduced to the market. During the years 2010-2016, nearly a thousand devices have been distributed mainly in Europe and Asia.
In 2013, Matej Slovak recevied an MD degree at the Charles University in Prague. He became a clinical neurologist and PhD student in Neuroscience with research interest in possible Rebox effects in neurological disorders (especially stroke).
Petr Slovak passed away in October 2016 in the age of 73. The Company continued in his legacy and, as a result, in 2018, a Rebox-Physio 3 model was launched.
In 2021, despite the Covid-19 crisis, the Company managed to invent and CE-certify new models Rebox-Physio 4 and Rebox-Physio tDCS, the latter of which, for the first time in Rebox history, contains an extra mode for Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). This mode opens up new research possibilities in combining the classic Rebox Therapy and tDCS in the field of neurorehabilitation.
